Combú Island Chocolate

BELÉM

When the renowned chef from Pará, Thiago Castanho, discovered Dona Nena’s chocolate during a fair where she sold her truffles, the life of this riverside woman, born and raised on Ilha do Combu, changed forever. Nena discovered that the rustic chocolate made from the ancestral cocoa grown in her backyard and produced by her family for four generations was a refined delicacy. Today, about 10 years later, she produces around 200 kilograms of chocolate per month, from harvesting to grinding, all done by hand. The brand Filha do Combu already has 15 products, including pot brigadeiros, refined chocolate bars, and cocoa liqueur, sold at her headquarters on the island, a 20-minute boat ride from Belém, and in restaurants and stores. Additionally, Dona Nena receives tourists and students, with numbers reaching up to 800 in a single weekend.
