Eulândia’s Grilled Fish
Eulândia looks like she’s no older than 35, but it may just be an impression. She already has five grown children, and with the help of two of them, she runs a kiosk on the yellow ferry at the Port of Manaus. With her husband Toinho manning the grill, Eulândia prepares meals where the highlight is the grilled ribs of Tambaqui and Pirarucu, which she serves to customers boarding the ferry. Eulândia buys the fish every morning at the Manaus Moderna market, very early, to ensure that she finds it fresh. Always smiling and charismatic, she says that the success of the fish is the garlic paste, in addition to the “seasoning of love” she adds while cooking. Her stall is well-organized, and everyone who works with her always has clean uniforms, which instills confidence in those who consume her food.
