Gaúcho's Drinks
A surfer, rocker, and bartender, Ed is a Gaúcho (from Rio Grande do Sul) with a strong accent who doesn’t go unnoticed on the sands of Ponta Negra. His drink cart, named Laranja Mecânica (A Clockwork Orange), is, of course, orange, just like his uniform. In a mechanical blender with a crank, which he received as a gift from a friend, he prepares drinks of all kinds: piña colada, batidas, hula hula, coco loco, espanhola, caipirinhas, caipiroscas, which he offers to tourists. The cart is small and “a bit shy,” but “I speak for it,” he jokes. After all, “those who don’t communicate, get messed up,” he teaches. And he recites the fruit and preparation options he offers, such as mango with ginger, passion fruit with mint, cajá, kiwi, strawberry… the list goes on. When he arrived in Natal three years ago, Gaúcho opened a car wash, but six months later, he traded it for the beach. “I realized it wasn’t what I wanted,” he says. Envious of the vendors working on the beach, he bought his own cart and started the adventure. If it depends on the joy he feels while operating the Laranja Mecânica, Gaúcho won’t give it up anytime soon.
