Ivete’s Tacacá
Manaus
Next to Congress Square is one of the oldest street food stalls in Manaus. It has been in the same location for 48 years, and the current owner is Dona Ivete, who inherited not only the spot but also the recipe for the famous Tacacá from her mother-in-law. There, she and part of her family – her husband and two of their four children – serve this delicacy of Amazonian cuisine. Nonato, her husband, is the one who does the shopping at the Municipal Market, but Ivete is the one who prepares the famous Tucupi – the soul of Tacacá! – whose seasoning is a secret passed down from mother-in-law to daughter-in-law.
