Renato’s Sardine in pressure cooker
Renato, after working for a while at a street food stall selling skewers and as a gas station attendant, decided one day to buy a spot in Praça da Várzea and start selling drinks. The place is a gathering spot for artists and intellectuals in the neighborhood, which is why the establishment was named “barraca da arte” (the art stall). After some time, he decided to bring the food he made at home to sell as accompaniments to the drinks. Ribs, sarapatel (a traditional Portuguese dish made with pork offal), liver, bean broth, and the famous “sardinha na pressão” (pressure-cooked sardines). The most requested dish among customers, it gained notoriety and appeared on some TV shows. Renato, shy and friendly, always maintains a good relationship with his customers.
