Dadá's Goat Skewer

Recife

Dadá is a friendly and somewhat shy elderly gentleman of almost 50 years old. He was born in Frei Miguelinho and came to Recife at the age of 13 with only a friend and a promise of a dishwashing job. He lived in a boarding house and traded his studies for jobs in restaurants, working as a barbecue cook and chef in various places. However, he started feeling insecure about the limited job market for older people and decided to work for himself. That’s when, 9 years ago, he started selling goat and other meat skewers. Nowadays, Mr. Dadá has a sales point on the corner of the street where he lives, in the Encruzilhada neighborhood. There, he offers goat skewers (the flagship item), jerked beef skewers, heart skewers, cheese skewers, meat with cheese skewers, chicken with bacon skewers, among others. He also has a unique cachaça (Brazilian rum) that he stores inside a stuffed goat that decorates his sales point. He purchases the meat from various butcher shops and usually orders the goat meat from the interior of Pernambuco. At his own home, he cuts and seasons the meat.
