Pink's Vaca Atolada

Recife

Pink is a star. When she promotes her broths around the Casa Amarela Market, she really catches the attention of passersby. Proof of that is her appearances on TV, such as on the show hosted by Eliana on SBT, and being featured in a short film. With her pink cart and dressed entirely in… pink, of course, Pink sells her Vaca Atolada(Beef Stew) broth, along with several others that she makes herself at home. A former elderly caregiver, one day she had the whim to abandon everythingto sell food on the street. Today, she prepares, in addition to Vaca Atolada, mocotó (cow hoof broth), feijoada, shrimp broth, rooster head broth, and the unusual dog porridge, a mixture of water, cassava flour, and spices. The Vaca Atolada, made with beef ribs and jerked beef, includes top-quality cassava. “This is the food of the sertaneja woman,” she proudly declares.
