Rolando Massinha’s Spaghetti

São Paulo

Rolando Vanucci was a construction contractor, but several disappointments made him consider leaving the profession. One day, while walking down the street, he came across a well-equipped hot dog van. Out of curiosity, he asked the lady serving the sandwiches if she knew anyone selling a vehicle like that. As fate or luck luck would have it, the woman remembered a friend who was getting rid of a van of the same year and model. On the same day, Rolando closed the deal, even without knowing exactly what he would do with the van. The first idea was to make hot dogs, but he wanted something innovative, different from what he saw everywhere. Then, he remembered the Bolognese sauce he made for friends and family, which was a big hit because of the Calabrian sausage he added to the minced meat. He started slowly, producing only the sauces and ordering fresh pasta In the beginning, it was tough; he worked from 6 PM to 6 AM, always alone, but the need made him not think about giving up. Today, eight years later, Rolando Massinha, as he became known, has his own pasta factory, and his colorful van is a reference for good food in São Paulo’s landscape.
